father's day

i’m not exactly sure how this happened, but for some reason after i got married i became the designated card-picker-outter in my home...and i’m terrible at it!!!
my husband’s side of the family is a little more subdued, so all i need to find is a card that just says “happy father’s day”....you’d think that wouldn’t be so hard for a card company to come up with...but for some reason, noooooo...
but my side of the family is all mushy and lovey-dovey, so any card works. in fact, i usually buy two cards: one funny and one sappy...and it’s not unusual at all to see me walking around publix with smudgy mascara....i’ve probably just needed to pick out a card for my mom or dad.
i’ve said it before that it’s always been easy for me to understand God as my father because my dad is so great. in fact, on this father’s day, i know you all might have mugs and cards that beg to differ but my dad really is the world’s greatest dad...
i am a complete daddy’s girl. and i’m just like my dad. ask my mom. i put salt on my grapefruit just like him. i think the purpose of a national holiday is to stay at home and do a big house project...just like him.
and there are some times that i just need to talk to him about stuff because we think alike. he can see part of himself in me and he simply gets me..
i’m always drawn to the thought of God thinking of us in the same way...does He see part of Himself in us, His children?
the first line of this next song is “bless the Lord, oh my soul”...and usually we think about  how He blesses us....giving us good things and revealing who He is to us...but flip it around...how do we bless Him?
Can He look down on you and say “that kindness, she gets that from me.” “that goodness, that joy, that peace....He gets that from me.” ?

psalm 68
Sing praises to God and to his name!
Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds.
His name is the Lord—rejoice in his presence!
Father to the fatherless, defender of widows—
this is God, whose dwelling is holy.
God places the lonely in families;
he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy.
Praise the Lord; praise God our savior!
For each day he carries us in his arms.
Our God is a God who saves!
The Sovereign Lord rescues us from death
